Uganda Airlines continues to spread its wings and soar higher with its maiden flight to Mombasa. Uganda airlines continues to defy the odds and critics alike as it continues to reach new heights every other day. Today marks a new chapter in the operations of Uganda’s new airline company as it has made its maiden direct flight from Entebbe to Mombasa a move authorities are banking on to help boost trade and tourism between Uganda and Kenya.

With the Uganda government set on bolstering its travel and tourism sector of the country, it decided to revive the national airline carrier which had run defunct by 2001 when the government privatized many of the state-run enterprises that were no longer being profitable. However with the ever-growing tourism sector that is raking in not less than 1.4 billion dollars annually and the oil sector which is slowly taking shape in Uganda, the government decided to revive the national airline carrier to capitalize on high levels of movement of both passengers and cargo mainly from these 2 sectors and also the high number of government officials who travel abroad as a way of ensuring that this airline stays afloat.

Uganda airlines takes to the skies

Earlier this year in April, the airline received its first 2 new planes of Bombardier CRJ900 that were procured from the Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier. These have a carrying capacity of 76 people with 12 business class seats and 64 economy class seats.  At the end of August, Uganda airlines commenced its first operations which saw it fly to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

In a space of 5 months, the airline has expanded to new routes or destinations which include Juba, Mogadishu, Bujumbura, Kilimanjaro, Dar-es-salaam, Nairobi and now it will start flying to Mombasa as well. All this is thanks to the arrival of the second batch of 2 other Bombardier CRJ900 planes to take the tally of the company’s aircraft to 4 giving it capacity to fly to all these destinations simultaneously in a bid to keep its esteemed every growing clientele list  satisfied with the services

Back to today’s maiden flight to Mombasa

The carrier’s Bombardier aircraft is expected to touch down at Moi International Airport, Mombasa at 1320hrs, making it the seventh destination since it resumed operations on August 27 this year.

The inaugural flight will departed Entebbe International Airport at 1130hrs and arrive Moi International Airport, Mombasa at 1320hrs then return to Entebbe at 1530hrs following the airlines Entebbe-Mombasa flight launch program. Uganda Airlines is set fly to Mombasa three times a week on Monday, Friday and Sunday.

According to our sources this 1 hour minute trip to the coastal town of Mombasa is targets the Ugandan business community which relies to the port city of Mombasa as an entry and exit point of their merchandise from and to international markets such as China, Dubai, India, America, Europe and southern Africa. You shouldn’t forget that Mombasa is also a very lucrative tourism destination especially for Africa honeymoon holidays as it is home to numerous beach resorts.
